Priscilla Janes

Priscilla produces one-of-a-kind ceramic work using both electric and sawdust kilns, and balances her work between functional pottery and decorative sawdust work.

The natural world is her continuous source of inspiration with vines, leaves and flowers often incorporated into her work. Since moving to Canmore, the process of sawdust firing has captured her attention and imagination. She is continually intrigued by the amazing variety and unpredictable results in both surface patterns and colours. The surfaces of her vessels often resemble lichen, rock or the night sky, always with an organic look, and without the use of glaze.

Priscilla has been an art educator since graduating from University, having taught in Calgary, Yellowknife, and Canmore¹s artsPlace. Priscilla has also been an archaeological draftsperson and illustrator in remote wilderness areas including Sudan, the Mackenzie River Valley and the Thelon Game Sanctuary of the Northwest Territories.
